After 28 years, Tippecanoe County Board of Elections member calls it quits

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A 28-year member of the Tippecanoe County Board of Elections is calling it quits.

Former president Bob Reiling turned in his letter of resignation just before Christmas. He said he wanted 2012's election to be his last. Reiling has been a member since 1984.

Reiling said it was interesting during the switch to touch screens. He said the switch took a lot of research but being one of the first counties to do so, certainly paid off.

However, he said the most significant change he saw as a member on the election board was early voting. He said Tippecanoe County was one of the first three counties in the United States to have early voting.

"I think it's been well-accepted by the voters. So, in our county, people no longer have to worry about what precinct they're and they vote early. About 40 percent of the people seem to vote early," Reiling said.

Randy Vonderheide will replace Reiling as president.

Reiling said it's just time to move on. He will continue to work as a business attorney in Lafayette.
