Adler appointed new health officer

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Tippecanoe County has a new Health Officer. The Board of Health appointed Doctor Jeremy Adler to the position during a meeting Wednesday morning. 

Adler is a graduate of West Lafayette High School and has been practicing medicine in Lafayette for the last nine years. The duties of the Health Officer include overseeing all aspects of public health including immunizations, emergency response and restaurant inspections. Adler said he is looking forward to the challenge.

"Public health is one of those areas that when it works, most people don't think about it. But when there is an emergency, an outbreak or some sort of public health crisis, then everybody thinks about it. The resources and the people involved become very important to everybody in the community," said Adler.

"I think he'll hit the ground running as far as when we have issues that come up. Whether it be infectious diseases or something of that nature, he's been there and he's done that. He's familiar with the community," said Tippecanoe County Board of Health Administrator Ron Cripe      

Adler is replacing Dr. Michael Bohlin. Bohlin has been in the position since 2004. The term for County Health Officer lasts 4 years.
