LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - After one business failed at 731 Main St. in Lafayette another fills the space in hopes it can survive by bringing an eclectic flare to downtown.

Erin Gilbert is the co-owner of Serendipity Eatery. She said she is excited about putting her restaurant in the open space. Gilbert said opening day isn't set but hopes to do it sometime between mid-December and mid-January.

The space previously housed Pre Bar. It went out of business in September.

Gilbert said she hopes the key to her success is to involve other downtown businesses and the community.

"It will be kind of upscale food with a fun flare," Gilbert said. "You've got organic eggs benedict Florentine served next to Fruity Pebble waffles. We're working with other downtown businesses. We'll be serving K.Dees coffee.

Serendipity will be open for breakfast and lunch. Gilbert said once she obtains a liquor license it will stay open for dinner.
