LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A little dog is learning to walk again, one paw at a time.
Tito, a dachshund, became partially paralyzed due to a degenerative bone disease, which is common in the breed.
Veterinarians told Tito's owners they had two choices, to put Tito down, or admit him into surgery at Purdue. They said the surgery could make Tito walk again.
Tito's owners said it wasn't even a choice, and they chose surgery.
"He was paralyzed because the disk was pinching the spine," said John Ewing, Tito's owner. "The veterinarians went, they did the surgery, and relieved the pressure and separated the vertebrate. He has partial movement now, but he still knuckles a little bit and drags his back legs."
For the next six to eight weeks, Tito has to stay put in his cage so the nerves can heal. Tito's owners set up a website , to help them pay for the $3,000 surgery.
