OTTERBEIN, Ind. (WLFI) - A Tippecanoe County woman is dead after being shot in the shoulder. The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Christine R. Craig of West Lafayette.
Benton County Sheriff Butch Pritchett said the shooting happened between 1:15 and 1:30 Friday afternoon. The woman's boyfriend, 57-year-old Steven R. Farrell is believed to be the shooter.
At the request of Benton County Prosecutor Bill Weist, an arrest warrant for one count of felony murder was issued for Farrell by Benton Circuit Court Judge Rex Kepner, police said.
Police say Craig was shot in Benton County on County Road 1050 East just north of US 52. She pulled up next to Farrell, who was in his pickup truck. A family member of Craig's left Farrell's truck and spoke to her. Craig then confronted Farrell. Craig went back to her car and sat in the passenger side. Farrell allegedly then walked over to Craig and shot her in the shoulder. Her 16-year-old daughter then drove Craig to Fellure Foods near Otterbein where police say Craig was found dead.
Farrell is a white male that is 5'11", 200 pounds with salt and pepper hair and brown eyes. He is driving a 2008 Silver Toyota Tundra pickup truck. The truck has an "In GOD We Trust" plate with a license number of Z-M-90-64. The pickup also has a lift kit, which means the body of the truck is raised up for higher ground clearance.
Pritchett said, "The suspect is still at large and considered armed."
