Veterans returned late Monday from Honor Flight to D.C.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - More than 100 military veterans returned Monday night to the Purdue Airport after a special trip to Washington, D.C.

It was the second Honor flight organized by Gold Star Moms.

The vets visited the World War II and Vietnam War memorials as well as Arlington Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial.  

"I've never flown before, so this is going to be exciting," World War II vet Alfred Deck said Monday morning before the trip left. "I don't know. I may throw a fit on that plane. I have no idea how I'm going to react. I think the visit will assure the history for the young children. I think some kids have forgotten about the World Wars.

"Maybe it will stimulate them and keep them from having another war."

The veterans and their escorts returned around 10 p.m. Monday.

Veteran Bill Fuller said he made memories Monday that will last a lifetime.

"It was a great experience then and it was a great experience today," said Fuller.

Veteran Raymond Sackett said all the veterans on the trip deserved to be there.

"I'm just one of many, there's all these gentlemen that did their part and it was great to be with them," said Sackett.

There is another honor flight scheduled for Oct. 15.
