LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - US Representative Steve Buyer could face the same challenger for a third time.

Purdue professor of biological sciences David Sanders filed today to run in the 4th District race as a Democrat. He ran against Republican Steve Buyer twice in the past, in 2004 and 2006.

Sanders said he decided to run again because his scientific background can help Congress craft better policies.

"Whether we're talking about climate change, weapons of mass destruction, energy policy, or medicine these are the things I have expertise in and I think that is important to have congressional representatives who understand these issues on a first hand basis," he explained.

Sanders said his campaign will focus on ethics, responsibility, jobs and veterans.

News Channel 18 called Buyer's office to ask if he plans to run again. His press secretary Anjulen Anderson said he is in the middle of the health care debate and his focus is on that.
