TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - The Lafayette Salvation Army has reached its Christmas Campaign goal.
Major Nelson De La Vergne said the community has donated more than $325,000. He said the goal was exceeded on New Year's Eve.
De La Vergne said, given the economy, he was a little worried
about reaching the goal this year, but he is thankful the community
stepped up to help.
"I'd really like to thank our community for all the service
they provided us by buying gifts for the children we are serving.
And, giving their donations in the red kettles, and all the
volunteers that we've had throughout the Christmas season. That
helps us in our fundraising as well. That way we don't have
to pay people to come and do all those things. So we
certainly appreciate our community and we're so happy to be here,"
said De La Vergne.
De La Vergne said people can still contribute money until January 15, when the campaign officially ends.
Donations can be mailed to the Salvation Army, at 1110 Union
Street, Lafayette, Indiana, 47904.
