LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety released its picks for the safest vehicles nationwide.

Some made here in the Lafayette area made the list.

The Subaru brand stood out in the safety numbers. It got a top rating for all four crash tests, in every vehicle class it competed in.

Bob Rohrman Auto Group salesman Jeff Young said the announcement will be a big selling point.

"It's important to today's consumers more than ever," said Jeff Young. "The key is to get the word out, like we're trying to do now, because these are things that are on a vehicle that are important to the consumer that you don't see with the eye."

Some big news for Ford too. The 2010 Fusion was named Motor Trend's 'Car of the Year.'
