LAFAYETTE, Ind (WLFI) -
Some senior citizens have a blanket to snuggle this winter, thanks to some elves from Subaru of Indiana Automotive.

SIA associates delivered more than 250 fleece blankets to seniors at three area nursing home facilties. Residents at Regency Place in Lafayette say the gifts were a nice surprise. Wilbur Troxel said the gift was real nice. "We use a lot of blankets around here."

"I've always wanted, needed a blanket like this," said Irene Wenning. "You need one to sit out in the hall where it's cold and things, so I'm very glad to get it."

The first delivery took place at Regency Place of Lafayette, followed by a delivery at Milner Health Care in Rossville.  Howard Haven in Kokomo  received the final delivery.

Regency Place of Lafayette Executive Director Carla Bowyer said the blankets not only keep the residents warm, it lifts their spirits. "Some of our residents don't have any family or friends and really don't have any holiday visitors," said Bowyer. "For Subaru to come in and not only wish everyone a Merry Christmas and give a personal God Bless you, they also brought a gift. It is a very useful gift, a soft snugly blanket. It is very important. It shows the community has not forgotten our seniors."

SIA's "Holiday of Hope" campaign began in November with a $1,000 donation to the Community and Family Resource Center. The donation was collected through an internal fundraiser. Since then, SIA has donated four shopping carts full of food to Food Finders's Food Bank and more than 400 winter coats to various organizations that serve low-income and homeless citizens in the area.
