LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Greater Lafayette Salvation Army welcomed its new officers, Majors Pat and Jim Irvine.
The Irvines previously served in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They moved to Lafayette area just a week ago.
The couple began their service with Salvation Army 18 years ago. Before that Jim Irvine was an engineer and Pat Irvine was a music teacher.
Major Jim Irvine said they are excited to serve all levels of need in the Lafayette Community.
"We're serving in many communities where people have never had to ask for help before and it's difficult for them to come in to any place to ask for help, but especially difficult to come into the Salvation Army for the first time in their lives and say 'I need help,'" said Major Jim Irvine.
The Irvines have three children and one daughter-in-law. The eldest works for the Salvation Army youth ministry in Chicago. Their middle child is a college student recently accepted at Purdue and the youngest will enter his sophomore year at high school this fall.
