LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - News 18 and Frontier Communications team up each month to honor people who are "Making A Difference" in the community.
After 35 years of teaching our winner for the month January retired but still wanted to do more to touch children's lives.
Marlene Campbell wanted to continue to impact the lives of students even after her retirement. She volunteers every single day at Vinton Elementary school helping Spanish speaking students learn English.
"I work with the children and I can communicate with them because they say something in Spanish and I say tell me in English, so we kind of learn from each other," Campbell commented.
For Mrs. Campbell it's once a teacher always a teacher -- this idea extends beyond the classroom to the relationships developed with the youngsters she works with.
"She's extremely patient and very lovable, so the kids even call her Grandma," added nominator Martha Lucht.
We salute Marlene Campbell, our Making A Difference winner for the month of January.
