WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Most Purdue students are home for the holiday, but for some
international students, Thanksgiving was celebrated on campus.
Resident Assistants at Hawkins Hall on Purdue's campus hosted
the event.
The students learned about the tradition of the holiday
before feasting on turkey, mashed potatoes and green bean
casserole.
More than thirty students participated in the dinner, far
exceeding the expectations of the dinner planners.
Organizers hope the family style meal helped students feel a
sense of being at home.
"Many of them are away from their home country or away from
family members, so it's a time that they can celebrate Thanksgiving
with their friends, with their home mates. Second, I hope they can
make some new friends here. Third, I hope they can enjoy the food,"
said Resident Assistant Fangjia Lu.
Lu says they hope to continue the Thanksgiving dinner next
year. Although, he said, they'll probably need more turkeys.
