A break in winter weather will give a local golf course a jump start to spring.
For golfers, warmer weather has been a long time coming. Golfer Grant Doyle says he was eager to get back into the swing of things.
"Very excited. I've been waiting for this all winter and this weather, nice day, perfect day for golf," said Doyle.
Lafayette Golf Course manager Jason Biddinger said it was a last minute decision to open the municipal course this early.
"We went out on the course, it's actually pretty dry, for this time of year. To open our course specifically at this time of year its pretty exciting," said Biddinger.
He said if they get at least 100 golfers opening weekend, it will be a solid start. Biddinger said yearly revenue for the course ranges from $450,000-$500,000.
"We saw some good numbers this past season. We had some struggles earlier in the spring, last year because of weather, but for June, July, August, September of last season it was fantastic," said Biddinger.
He said a successful year includes 22,000-24,000 rounds of golf.
Golfer Michael Hanson said every clear day helps municipal golf courses survive.
"Everyone is dying to get out everyone is looking forward to the first time they can get outside and enjoy if they are open with a longer season, I think it's a lot better for the golf course," said Hanson.
Biddinger agreed that it has been a long, cold winter and golfers are ready to get outside.
"People are just excited to swing a club. I don't think anyone really cares how they are going to score they're just excited to be out," said Biddinger.
