Frankfort now in Level 2 snow emergency

FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) - According to a press release, Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes has issued a level 2 snow emergency which orders all non-essential city departments to close at noon Tuesday.

These departments include all the offices in Old Stoney (Mayor’s office, Clerk-Treasurer’s office, Building Services Department) as well as the Frankfort Parks Department.

Frankfort Police, Fire and Street Departments will continue to remain open, providing public safety services and snow removal.

With the Level 2 emergency in place, only essential travel is allowed. This including travel to and from work or school, medical appointments or to get prescriptions, travel to obtain essential supplies of food or fuel, to take shelter or the travel of emergency vehicles or workers engaged in emergency operations.

Government officials do not decide whether local businesses open or close in bad weather. Those decisions are left solely in the hands of those companies according to Mayor McBarnes.

“If any Frankfort businesses are open today, we urge all employees to use extreme caution when traveling to and from their places of work. Our local roads are treacherous right now and we urge citizens to limit their travel, if at all possible,” McBarnes said.
