TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Two teens ended up in the hospital Monday after their SUV crashed into a tree in Tippecanoe County.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 1:45 p.m. on West County Road 500 North.

Sheriff's deputies said Cody Gerlach, 16, had to be extricated after his car slid off the road and hit a tree. Deputies said he was not wearing a seatbelt. As of 10:45 p.m. Monday, Gerlach was listed in good condition at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health.

A passenger, Vanessa Loya, 17, was taken to Franciscan Saint Elizabeth East Hospital with minor injuries.

Deputies said they don't believe alcohol was a factor, but speed likely was. The crash remains under investigation.
