TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Republican Christa Coffey announced her candidacy for the 2010 Election.

Coffey told a group of supporters she will run for the Tippecanoe County Clerk of the Circuit Court.  The current Clerk, Linda Phillips, has served the limit of two consecutive terms and cannot run again.

Coffey currently serves as the Chief Deputy Clerk.  She said the past 7 years in that position have prepared her to take over as Clerk.

"I posses the qualifications and the management skills needed to fulfill the requirements of this office.  I am responsive to the needs of others and bring personal integrity and commitment to all that I do.  The operations of the clerk's office are changing as the use of technology continues to streamline its functions.  My background uniquely prepared me to meet the challenge of implementing those changes, said Coffey.

Candidates have until February 19 at 12:00p.m. to file their candidacy for the May primary.
