WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The 2010 Census forms were mailed out Monday morning.
West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis said the last Census was 10 years ago and, since then, the area has grown.
He said the forms are confidential and could help the area secure more funding.
"We are currently a Class Three city and with just a few thousand more citizens we can then jump to a Class Two, which opens the door for us to have opportunities for expansion and growth and also potential for revenue especially when it comes to money coming from the federal government," Dennis said.
Dennis said the last Census showed West Lafayette's population was about 28,000 people.
35,000 people or more would move West Lafayette into a Class Two level.
