Residents sign petition to change parking rules

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Residents signed petitions and protested Saturday, they called for HOA board members to step down and change parking rules.

The current rules state that there will be no street parking, and any vehicle found in violation will be towed at the owner's expense.

"We were trying to move out and we have three trucks moving out. One is parked in the back, one in the front, and one on the side. Jr's came and towed the one in front even after I explained to him we're moving. he says 'So? I don't care. you're parked in the front and we're towing you,'" said Nanette Moss.

Many residents of the neighborhood said that the current rules for parking are not conducive to a family-oriented community.

"When we have four cars that live there already, plus our garage, it doesn't allow much room for company at all. We can't have friends over, we can't have holiday dinners. You know we didn't realize this was such a big controversy when we bought the house," said homeowner Jackie Crider.

Resident Destiny Ruby said that the protest is really to get the attention of the board and is a call for them to step down. Ruby said that many residents feel that the board has not heard what they have to say.

"The point of the matter is that the board has dictated what we can do and we are now asking that we have a say in our community," said Ruby.

Ruby said that most of the board members are appointed and residents would like to vote for their representative members.

Ruby said that 10% of the homeowners need to call for a special meeting of the board in order to discuss the parking issue.
