ATTICA, Ind. (WLFI) - A West Lebanon man is dead after sustaining head injuries in a two-vehicle crash just before 1 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 41 near Bond Street in Attica.
Attica police say 96-year-old Raymond Fleming was turning a Buick out of the Crossroads Family Restaurant parking lot when he pulled into the path of a southbound tractor-trailer driven by 40-year-old Ray Curtis of Otterbein.
The semi hit the Buick on the driver’s side, trapping Fleming inside.
The car was forced off the road into a ditch by the impact of the collision.
Attica Fire Department and Fountain County EMS crews extricated Fleming from the car.
Fleming was airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis Wednesday night, where he died from his injuries.
Witnesses at the scene said Fleming had stopped and looked both ways before pulling onto the road.
It is unknown whether he did not see the oncoming semi, or if he just thought it was farther away.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
