LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A Lafayette bank is helping some local students get what they need for the upcoming school year.
Huntington Bank and Big Lots donated 500 backpacks and school supplies to the Lafayette School Corporation.
Volunteers helped stuff the packs full of pencils, notebooks and other supplies.
The packs will be heading to Murdock Elementary to be distributed to children in need.
One student told us that he is grateful to get the tools needed for success.
"It helps me a lot, especially with pencils, because I'm usually low on pencils. It helps me take notes at school and helps me in life,” said Jhovanny Molina, sophomore.
"It comes back to a level of comfort for the student. The more we can make the students feel more comfortable. The more we can make them feel welcome, the more we can become their second home. Things just domino for the good from there,” said Les Huddle, Lafayette School Corporation Superintendent.
The backpacks will be distributed on August 27, the first day of school.
