WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - About 50 neighbors came out to weigh in on plans for West Lafayette's New Chauncey neighborhood Tuesday evening.
It was the second of three meetings between architects, area planners and residents.
As News 18 has previously reported, the goal is to create a land use and an overlay plan to give clear policy directions and ordinance requirements for the neighborhood.
The meeting in the West Lafayette Junior/Senior High School Auditorium unveiled the first preliminary land use plan for the neighborhood which sits on the east side of Northwestern Avenue, across from Purdue University.
Design architect and principal Brent Davis with CSO Architects Inc. said the goal is to get more owner-occupied homes.
"Hopefully we'll come to some kind of consensus that something needs to happen to slow down the obvious change from single family to rentals," Davis said.
There is another workshop on Nov. 7.
The Steering Committee will then develop a final draft to send to the Area Plan Commission.
