100s of classic cars to 'rev' engines

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Start those engines and shine those wheels. Dancing in the Streets starts Saturday, and some vintage beauties, like this powder blue Pontiac Bonneville, will be lining the streets of downtown.

"We usually have 200 to 250 cars that show up," 'cruise' director, William Zobrist said. "Most of them like to cruise and drive around the cruise course."

Dancing in the Streets 'Cruise Director,' William Zobrist, said the car portion of the Dancing in the Streets event is a perfect opportunity for car enthusiasts to come together and rev up their engines.

"We try and get people with their older cars to bring them out so people can enjoy them," Zobrist said. "People who own these cars spend a lot of time and money and effort on these cars and they enjoy sharing them with the public."

Zobrist said sometimes it's the small trinkets that make a car a 'classic.'

"Another neat option Pontiac has is a roll-out light," Zobrist explained. "This light will go 16 feet so if you need to go under the car on a dark night you have a light that will go there."

But besides the unique trinkets and spacious trunks, Zobrist said for some, these antique wheels bring back memories.

"You'll find that so many people come up to you and go, 'Oh, my uncle had one of those when I was a kid, or my grandfather had one of those. So it's really an opportunity for them to kind of re-live and for us to re-live part of your younger days when you had these cars,' " Zobrist said.

Re-live some of the younger days, and focus 'driving forward' through the future.

Tune into Newschannel 18 Saturday night from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. for a full, live coverage of Dancing in the Streets.
