INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed that an infant was found deceased Sunday morning on the city's east side.
Public Information Officer Michael Hewitt says an infant was discovered Sunday morning around 11 a.m. in a creek on the 1500 block of Fenwick Avenue.
The Marion County coroner's office said on Monday that they weren't immediately able to determine the race of the baby boy. Tissue samples will need to be examined to determine if the baby was delivered at full-term or was premature. The cause of death wasn't released Monday.
The coroner's office also said police are concerned about the health of the mother who may have delivered the infant.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
