EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A southwestern Indiana cosmetic surgeon is being sued by nine women who accuse her of botching their breast reconstruction surgeries.

The nine women say they are battling infections or have suffered permanent injuries to their breasts from the surgeries performed by Dr. Alina Sholar.

Some of the women who are suing Sholar had their breasts removed to battle breast cancer, while others had breast augmentations.

Sholar attorney Michele Bryant declined to comment on the cases' specifics, but she tells the Evansville Courier & Press "there's a lot more to the situation than I can comment about."

An Indiana panel that hears medical malpractice suits has so far heard one of the cases. The panel ruled in that case that Sholar met a reasonable standard of care.
