Investigation at the WVCF after Monday assault

A criminal investigation is underway at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility after two staff members were assaulted by five offenders.

It all happened Monday afternoon, during dinner, in a maximum-security housing unit  

Facility officials said one of their officers was hit, without warning, by an offender with four other offenders then joining in.  

A food service worker tried to break up the incident, but was also attacked.  

Both workers suffered minor injuries and didn't require outside medical treatment.  

Right now, there's no motive for the assaults and the names of the offenders have not yet been released pending the outcome of the investigation.
