Ex-trooper loses bid for release before trial

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A former Indiana state trooper accused of killing his wife and two young children 12 years ago has lost his bid to get out of jail while he awaits his third trial.

The Indiana Supreme Court denied David Camm's request. Camm's lawyers argued he should be released because of a delay in the trial they say was sparked by a county prosecutor's plan to write a book about the case.

But the justices ruled Monday the two-year delay was Camm's own doing because he obtained a stay during a legal battle over the prosecutor's role.

A defense attorney didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.

Appeals courts overturned jury verdicts from 2002 and 2006 that convicted Camm of murder for the shootings in the Floyd County town of Georgetown.
