NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A woman was arrested after the Newton County Sheriff’s Department found over 700 pills in her possession without a valid prescription.

On Thursday, an officer pulled over 53-year-old Sandra Permenter of Clarksville, Tennessee for a speeding violation.

During the traffic stop, the officer noticed a plastic bag on the back floorboard with several prescription bottles.

Permenter had over 700 DEA Schedule IV pills without a valid prescription with an estimated street value of $3,800.

Permenter was arrested and taken to the Newton County Jail for possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, which is generally characterized as prescription pills that are not easily addictive or abused.
