White County Sheriff says man lied about stabbings at home in Reynolds

Man admits to fabricating stabbing incidents

REYNOLDS, Ind. (WLFI) - It was a scene White County deputies were all too familiar with.

"There was a call in that led police to believe there was a home invasion that they had to respond to," said White County Prosecutor Bob Guy.

Deputies were first called to a Reynolds home about a possible stabbing Friday morning. Early Monday morning, police were called to the same home for another report of stabbing.

"Law enforcement was called to the same residence by the same guy and allegations again that he was stabbed by an unknown intruder," said Guy.

Guy said after authorities responded to the first call Friday morning, there had been suspicions that the story the man told deputies wasn't true.

"Ultimately, again as the story did not check out, he acknowledged that he had made up both the incident that had taken place early morning today as well as the story that had taken place last Friday," said Guy.

Guy said now, the question is "why" did he do it in the first place?

"Obviously, mental health issues are being examined in this particular case," said Guy. "We were concerned last week as to why someone would injure themselves, go to the hospital, and then report an incident that they had been attacked."

Yet, Guy said while authorities continue their investigation, he wants the public to know this isn't something they should be worried about.

The case is currently with the prosecutor's office. Guy said the man could be charged with falsely informing officers of a crime.
