WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - One day after a jogger was hit on the Purdue campus, police are pushing enforcement of pedestrian laws.

( Previous story about pedestrian accident. )

West Lafayette Police Chief Jason Dombkowski said his department is partnering with Purdue police to spotlight pedestrian laws in West Lafayette.

He said police will be looking out for violations of these laws over the next two weeks, and enforcing them with citations.

Dombkowski said the effort is twofold.

"One, we'll be looking for enforcement from pedestrians, which we really didn't do a whole lot of last year. It was really more of an education front. But trying to get people to use those crosswalks. And then certainly the motorists, making sure that they recognize that those crosswalks exist and to yield for them," said Dombkowski.

There are several crosswalks on campus that have been installed within the last year, including some along University street and on Grant Street near the Union.

Dombkowski said another crosswalk will be installed from the parking garage on Grant Street, as well as in the West Lafayette Village area, near Northwestern Avenue.
