Two tanks of gas stolen from Lafayette Food Finders in 2 weeks

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Food Finders Food Bank says nearly 60 gallons of gas has been stolen from their delivery trucks in less than two weeks.

According to Food Finders, on Wednesday night 25 gallons of gasoline was siphoned from a Food Finders delivery truck in the food bank’s parking lot.

Less than two weeks ago, roughly 33 gallons of gas was stolen from a delivery truck in the lot.

“At this time when food costs are on the rise and the accessibility to food is limited, a loss like this is detrimental to Food Finders,” the organization stated in a press release. “Not only is the cost of gas expensive to replace, (but) it takes the food banks’ limited resources away from food and programs to feed the hungry."

Thefts like this also affect how quickly deliveries make it to agencies and clients who need them.

Food Finders says as a result of the thefts it will be increasing security for the parking lot as well as security for individual vehicles.
