TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A routine traffic stop led to a suspect going to jail for possession of illegal drugs.

On July 7, around 11:30 p.m., 22-year-old Andrew P. Amrein of Okeana, Ohio, was pulled over on I-65 northbound near mm 178 for a minor traffic violation.

During the conversation with Amrein, the Indiana State Police trooper became suspicious of criminal activity.

A K-9 alerted on the car and the trooper and a West Lafayette police officer found heroin in the vehicle.

Amrein was taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail on a preliminary charge of Possession of Schedule I or II Drug.

The investigation is ongoing.
