WHITE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Residents of Monticello are still reeling after two robberies Tuesday morning. Many later woke to the news Wednesday morning of a string of gas station robberies, it's a crime streak that has many wondering what is going on in White County.

Three gas stations, all in White County, all robbed in the early morning hours Wednesday. The first reported robbery was at 3:45 AM at the Admiral Gas Station on Main Street in Monticello.

"While we were on scene there we received another report at approximately 4:30 AM that the South Main Street Station had also been robbed," said Randy Soliday, Monticello Police Chief.

Main Street Station was the second of the three gas stations to be robbed, but the only one to come out unscathed, thanks to the quick thinking of one cashier.

"She reached in her back pocket and took the safety off of her hand-gun, and pointed it at the young man and said, 'I said leave my store now!' And the kid turned around and left," said Kim Kramer, the stores manager.

One more robbery would follow, just before 6:00AM at the Family Express in Monon. The suspect description in all three remains the same, a white male, in his 20's tall and thin, wearing a black hoodie and jeans.

Chief Randy Soliday said there is no doubt in his mind that the three robberies are related. The three crimes come on the heels of Tuesday's bank robbery, ensuing chase and police action shooting. The rash of crime has some wondering what exactly is going on in White County.

"Hardly anything ever happens in White County and we're having all these robberies and things happen. It's crazy," said Emily Mead, a resident of White County.

"People are just kind of baffled about the whole thing. It's like, this stuff doesn't happen in Monticello, Indiana. It happens in Chicago, or it happens in Indianapolis," said Kramer.

In each robbery the suspect is said to have fled on foot, NewsChannel 18 asked police if they believe there may be other people involved, at this time they're unsure.

Police ask if you have any information regarding these robberies to call the Monticello Police Department at 574-583-2256, the Monon Police Department at 219-253-8414, the White County Sheriff's Department at 574-583-2251 or the the WeTip hotline at 800-78-CRIME.
