Teacher ambushed, robbed outside school

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis Public School teacher is breathing a sigh of relief after someone robbed him at gunpoint.

The teacher was leaving Francis Scott Key, School 103, in the 3900 block of Baker Drive. Anthony Delarosa told police the two suspects ordered him to the ground. Then, they took his keys, wallet, cell phone and other items. Delarosa says the suspects told him to crawl in the opposite direction of his vehicle. As he crawled, the two black males jumped in his car and took off.

Now, police are searching for his four door Blue 2012 Honda Civic. It has an Ohio license plate, FPR6644.

Thursday, Delarosa stayed home to meet with administrators. The fourth grade teacher is working with IPS through Teach for America. He declined to talk on camera for now.

Meanwhile, IPS Chief of Police Steve Garner says he sent an email to IPS employees as reminder to be cautious.

"The suspects in Wednesday's robbery waited about five minutes behind a dumpster for Delarosa to come out to his car,” Garner said.

Wednesday's crime comes after a student was killed while trying to rob someone of a car, Garner said.

"The victim had a gun and shot him," he said.

Garner said the prior incident happened less than a half mile from School 103.
