MONROE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Two Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies and a Bloomington Police Department officer were injured Thursday night after a male suspect refused to comply to a protective order.
A deputy was serving the order on the 6700 block of Gross Road when he was beaten in the face and head by a male suspect.
When the deputy called for back-up, the suspect attacked a second deputy and then fled the scene.
Bloomington city police responded to assist in the incident and stopped the suspect’s car.
The suspect fled from the vehicle and ran into the woods. The officer pursued him. When the Bloomington officer reached for his baton a struggle ensued.
The baton fell to the ground.
The suspect then reached for the officer’s weapon which discharged. No one was hit by bullets.
The two Monroe County deputies were treated and released from the hospital. The Bloomington officer suffered slight injuries in the incident.
30-year-old Cody Waldrip was taken into custody.
