REMINGTON, Ind. (WLFI) - A homeless man was airlifted to a hospital after he was stabbed in an apparent domestic dispute Tuesday night. Investigators said the female suspect had to be shocked with a stun gun before she could be taken into custody.
It all happened at about 5 p.m. central time on the 100 block of North Indiana Street in Remington.
Witnesses tell NewsChannel 18, 30-year-old Larry Brown and 48-year-old Marlene Grant had known each other for a short time.
Witnesses also said the pair had been living out of the Brown's SUV in an acquaintance's driveway and had agreed to move to a place in Goodland.
But, witness and homeowner Mark Schulz said, as they were about to leave, they got into a dispute. Schulz says Grant pulled a knife out of her bra and stabbed Brown multiple times in the face and head.
"Something just flipped," Schulz said. "I'm on the phone with the cops and she's literally stabbing him to death."
He estimates they had only known each other four days.
"I mean, it's a very short relationship, but it ended wrong," he said.
When deputies arrived, they found Brown collapsed in the grass of the front yard.
"Very serious is what it appears, a lot of blood," said Pat Williamson, Chief Deputy with the Jasper Co. Sheriff's Office. "He was down on the ground and was pretty much disabled from the injuries."
Brown was airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis where he was described as stable Tuesday night.
"I'm glad my family is alright and my thoughts go out for the guy who just got stabbed," Schulz said.
Jasper County deputies said Grant was combative when they arrived and they were forced to use a stun gun on her before they could arrest her.
She's now in the Jasper County Jail and faces a preliminary charge of attempted murder.
