Sex trafficking bill heads to gov. desk

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WLFI) - A bill made to toughen the laws of sex trafficking is now on its way to the governor's desk.

State Senator Randy Head from Logansport authored the bill.

His goal was to get it signed into law before the Super Bowl, which is considered one of the biggest events in the country to draw sex trafficking.

The bill creates harsher penalties for violators., and closes certain "legal loopholes" which allow some forms of human trafficking to go un-prosecuted.

"It's passed both chambers, so that's a wonderful thing. And we're trying to get it to the desk of the governor so he can get it signed. It's on time, we were able to make this work, it's on time despite the walk-out earlier in the session so things right now couldn't be better,” said Senator Head.

The bill was passed unanimously by both houses of the Indiana General Assembly.

The only thing holding the bill back from being enacted in to law is a signature from Governor Mitch Daniels.
