LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Lafayette Police Department is investigating the first homicide of 2010.
Captain Bruce Biggs says a call came into dispatch on Thursday, April 8 at 1:37 p.m. Lafayette Police responded to a home at 2200 Ottawa Drive in Lafayette.
Biggs said police found the body of 21-year-old Kory Rogers inside. Rogers had suffered a gun shot wound.
Police said they are currently following multiple leads. Biggs said police are still in the early phases of their investigation and are still gathering evidence at the scene.
"Every investigative resources that we have - both human and technologically -are being applied to this investigation," said Biggs.
Biggs said the cause of Rogers death is still unknown. Autopsy was performed this afternoon.
Next door neighbor Julio Neito said the residents of the house were fairly new to the neighborhood, but like most neighbors kept to themselves.
"I guess your level of awareness really does go up because, you don't expect things like this to happen in your neighborhood. When it does you don't really know how to react," said Neito.
Many of those who live on Ottawa have been stationed outside, watching, waiting and possibly guarding their property.
Neighbor Pamela Wiggs has elderly parents that live on Ottawa. She said it makes her nervous.
"There's a lot of people on this street and nobody knows what's going on you know? Then you have a murder or death and you just kinda get afraid to do anything at night anyway," said Wiggs.
Neighbor Brian Morrow lives two houses away from the crime scene.
"As of right now not knowing the details of the investigation, I'm just treating it as something within their personal structure over there went wrong. Until we find any details out otherwise I'm not going to hide under the covers," said Morrow.
