Regions bank robbed in Frankfort

FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) - It's the area's fourth armed bank robbery in just six weeks.  After three in Lafayette, this one is at the Regions bank on the east side of Frankfort.

Police said it happened about 4:38 p.m. Friday at the Regions location on 1405 E. Wabash St.

Detectives said two men wearing masks and dark-hooded clothing walked in, showed a compact silver handgun and ran off with an undisclosed amount of money.  Bank employees watched them run west across Hoke Avenue before losing sight of the pair. A K9 unit lost the scent.

Police said with an estimated seven to eight customers and employees inside the bank about an hour before closing time, they are thankful no one was injured.

"From my experience involved with robberies in general, normally, they hit at a slow time," said Det. Major Jason Albaugh.  "This couldn't have been a busier part of the day, especially at this branch."

Frankfort detectives have been in contact with Lafayette police to see if there are any connections to three recent armed bank robberies here.

The suspects are believed to be white. One man is described as about 5 ft 6 inches to 5 ft 8 inches tall.  The other is believed to be about 6 feet tall. Both have a small to medium build.

Police said one person was brought in for questioning Friday evening but has been released.
