BROWNSBURG, Ind. (WISH) - An incident with a student that prompted a police presence and lockdown at Brownsburg High School Monday morning involved a student who punched himself in the eye, school officials said Monday afternoon.
Officers were initially called to the school to investigate a possible stabbing, but the student later told officials he scraped off scabs from initial cuts caused by a dog. He also said he struck himself in the face to injure his eye.
School officials said Monday they intend to pursue false informing charges against the student.
"(The) most important thing is for parents to know their students have always been safe here today and will continue to be safe," Superintendent Jim Snapp told 24-Hour News 8 reporter Jay Hermacinski.
Police say the student entered a school bathroom at 8:45 a.m. At 8:50 a.m., the student exited the bathroom and fell to the floor. The student was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital for a swollen left eye, four cuts on the face, and one cut on the lower back.
The lockdown has since been lifted and classes resumed as usual.
