WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Police responded to a report of an armed robbery early Tuesday afternoon in West Lafayette.
West Lafayette Police say the Check Into Cash at 1056 Sagamore Parkway West was robbed by two people just after 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.
West Lafayette Police Lt. Troy Harris said the suspects are described as two black males, one with a mask, one with a hat. Both were wearing dark sweatshirts. One of the men reportedly had a silver handgun.
The men took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled to their vehicle behind the block of businesses. Police have gathered surveillance footage from Check Into Cash and conducted several interviews with witnesses.
Police are also working on checking surveillance from surrounding businesses.
Witnesses saw the two men left in a charcoal-gray colored Dodge Durango. Harris said a witness may have noticed something specific about the vehicle.
"Early reports say that it may have a Breast Cancer Awareness license plate but we can not confirm that," Harris said.
Harris said the employees at Check Into Cash played their part to keep everyone safe, including a customer. However, he said it wasn't easy.
"Due to where the employees were at in the store and where the suspects were located and the threat that was exposed by having the firearm pointed at them, they didn't feel it was safe to activate any emergency distress signals," Harris said.
Harris said an employee called in the robbery as soon as the men left.
Anybody with information about the robbery can call the West Lafayette Police Department at 775-5200 or the anonymous We-Tip hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME.
Check Into Cash is a company that can cash checks, or can loan cash until payday for those who need money immediately.
