TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - We're learning new information about the man suspected of breaking into a home and causing police to put two local schools on lockdown.
22-year-old Montez Harris is still being held in the Tippecanoe County jail, under $25,000 surety bond.
He was arrested Wednesday for attempted robbery and resisting arrest.
Sunnyside Middle and Murdock Elementary schools were placed on lockdown Wednesday, after a reported burglary.
According to court documents filed Friday, a man returned to his home on 19th Street to find another man taking his TV into a white car in the alley.
After giving officers a partial plate number, they located the vehicle, and say the driver led them on a chase.
Police later found the car crashed into a parked car and found Harris inside a nearby apartment.
The documents say Harris admitted being involved in several burglaries, including one that morning, where he was confronted by the homeowner.
"Since the Wednesday morning arrest of Montez Harris, we've been able to solve several burglaries, and we also were able to recover some of the property, where Mr. Harris is an alleged suspect,” said Lafayette Police Detective Scott Galloway.
Detective Galloway said Harris is originally from Indianapolis and was living with family in Lafayette.
