LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette police arrested a 23-year-old man late Tuesday night, following three gunshots heard by officers near City Hall.
Around 10:30 p.m., officers heard the shots fired while they were in the parking lot next to City Hall. Police said the shots came from the southwest. As officers began their investigation, they were approached by a woman who was crying. With her was Jarrod Phillips. Officers said Phillips had a handgun on him with three spent ammunition casings. Officers also reported the gun's serial numbers had been "obliterated."
Phillips was arrested and booked at the Tippecanoe County Jail. He is facing several charges, including Possession of a Handgun Without A License and Criminal Recklessness With A Deadly Weapon.
Police said the shots were fired into the air, not at a person or property. No one was hurt and no damage was reported in the area.
