Police bust meth lab

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Two Frankfort men were arrested after an active meth lab was discovered in their Lafayette motel room.

According to the Lafayette Police Department, Officer Ian O’Shields was on foot patrol near the Knight's Inn on State Road 26 East around 10:30 Monday night, when he discovered an active meth lab in room 232.

33-year-old Pedro Villarreal and 20-year-old Ty Wilkerson, both of Frankfort, were arrested for manufacturing and possessing methamphetamine.

Sergeant Bob Baumgartner said the discovery of the meth lab can be credited to the vigilance of Lafayette Police Officer O'Shields who was checking in with clerks at the motel when he noticed something strange.

“While Officer O'Shields was doing that, he was at Knight's Inn. He was walking down the row of rooms at Knight's Inn, and he noticed some unusual activity at one of the rooms,” said Sergeant Baumgartner.

They remain in Tippecanoe County Jail on a $50,000 bond.  

According to police, adjoining rooms at the Knight's Inn were evacuated for safety precautions.

No one was injured or complained of illness during the investigation.

The  Lafayette Fire Department and the Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab Team cleaned the room of any hazardous material.

According to a Tippecanoe County jail official, Villarreal is also wanted on a warrant for failure to appear on an OWI charge.
