TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A Tippecanoe County pastor is facing charges of voyeurism as the investigation continues.
According to Tippecanoe County Sheriff Tracy Brown, the sheriff's office received a complaint on April 22 from a member of the Sunrise Christian Reformed Church in Lafayette.
The complaint stated a member of the congregation found a suspicious device in the women's restroom of the church.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Tippecanoe Superior Court One, the "suspicious device" turned out to be a video camera, hidden inside an air freshener on the back of the bathroom stall.
The congregation member then checked the other two stalls.
The two remaining stalls also had air fresheners and one other air freshener also had a camera inside, bringing the camera total to two.
Brown said an officer was dispatched to the church immediately to begin an investigation and collect the two cameras.
"Subsequent to the initiation of the investigation, the pastor of the church, Robert Lyzenga, was arrested and later posted a 5,000 dollar surety bond. He stands accused of one count of voyeurism as a class D Felony,” said Tracy Brown of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department.
Lyzenga has not officially been charged by the prosecutor’s office as the investigation is still ongoing.
Sheriff Brown said the charge is only the preliminary charge and said Lyzenga could face more charges.
