More than 40 vehicles found with shot-out windows in Rensselaer

RENSSELAER, Ind. (WLFI) - Police say roughly 40 cars in Rensselaer were found with broken, shot-out windows this week.

At about 9:15 p.m. Nov. 5, Rensselaer police received a report of a window being shot out of a vehicle on Park Avenue. This led to the discovery of about 25 other cars in that night alone throughout the city that had windows shot out in the same fashion.

Attempts to contact the owners at night were done until about 11 that night.

At this time, investigators are looking into more than 40 vehicles that have been damaged by what appears to be a bb gun. Most of them have had one vehicle shot out. Police believe most of those windows were broken between 9 p.m. and midnight.

“We are mapping the damaged vehicles and plan to review video of areas where the damage occurred,” Police Chief Jeff Phillips said. “We have a few leads that investigators are following up on.”

Anyone with information about someone shooting car windows are asked to call Chief Phillips or Detective Chad Hammond at 765-866-7602, email Chief Phillips or contact your Community Alliance Captain.
