MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - During a routine traffic stop, an Indiana State Trooper arrested two men on drug charges.
Around 9:22 Wednesday night, the trooper pulled over an SUV, driven by 60-year-old Richard Beets of Peru, Indiana, on U.S. 31, near State Road 218, with an inoperable headlight.
The trooper became suspicious and called for a narcotics detecting police dog to assist. The K-9 alerted to illegal narcotics in the vehicle.
Officers then allegedly found two film canisters which contain suspected crack cocaine.
Beets was taken to the Miami County jail on two felony charges for possession of cocaine and operating a vehicle after having been deemed a habitual traffic violator.
A passenger in the vehicle, 62-year-old James Jones of Peru, Indiana, was also arrested on two felony charges for possession of cocaine and maintaining a common nuisance and taken to the Miami County Jail.
