ANGOLA, Ind. (AP) - A man who allegedly opened fire on vehicles traveling along a northeastern Indiana highway and then shot at police is scheduled to stand trial next month, some nine years after the shootings.

A Steuben County judge on Tuesday set an April 17-19 trial for 34-year-old Donald William Myers III, who faces six counts of attempted murder and one count of criminal recklessness.

The Herald-Republican reports prosecutors say Myers shot at vehicles along U.S. 20 some on April 29, 2004. The Angola man also allegedly shot at an Indiana State Police trooper's patrol car. He was captured after another trooper fired back, wounding him.

Myers' case has been on hold due to his mental state, but last June a forensic psychology board found him competent to stand trial.
