SPENCERVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Indiana State Police say a man fleeing officers has died after his Jeep struck a tree and caught fire.
Officers say the crash occurred Monday morning on a rural DeKalb County road about 20 miles northeast of Fort Wayne.
They say a DeKalb deputy sheriff responding to a call went to a home and was talking to someone through a window when the man drove the Jeep through a garage door, collided with the deputy's patrol car and sped away.
A second DeKalb deputy sheriff took up the pursuit, which lasted about a mile before the Jeep left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire.
The driver, who was alone at the time, died at the scene. His name wasn't immediately released.
