DARLINGTON, Ind. (WLFI) - The suspect in a Montgomery County murder admits to firing a gunshot, but claims it was an accident.

On Thursday, prosecutors charged 39-year-old Matthew Eric Hickman with murder, aggravated battery, battery with a deadly weapon and reckless homicide.

51-year-old Mark Welch of Darlington was shot and killed at his home Monday night on County Road 950 East.

Prosecutors say the two men were with a woman in Hickman's truck before the shooting.

After an argument, prosecutors say Hickman got out, walked around the truck and started hitting the passenger-side window until it broke.

Prosecutors say during an interview, Hickman admitted breaking the truck's window and shooting Welch, but says he didn't mean for the gun to go off.

Here is our original story on the shooting.
